PHOENIX - Police say a man stabbed a former coworker and a woman Saturday afternoon in Phoenix because he was upset over getting fired at his job.

According to Phoenix police Sgt. Trent Crump, the incident happened around 1:30 p.m. Saturday near 67th Avenue and Indian School Road.

The suspect has been identified as 28-year-old Qui Tu Trong, according to Crump.

The two victims, a man and his aunt, were in the apartment when Trong broke in and used a large meat cleaver to stab them, Crump said.

Trong fled the scene but was arrested a short time later, he said.

The male victim and Trong worked together at a nearby market, and Trong was recently fired, Crump said.

The victim’s aunt was reportedly stabbed when she tried to intervene during an altercation between the nephew and Trong.

During the incident, the aunt sustained life-threatening injuries. The nephew’s injuries are serious.
