PHOENIX - Police said a man killed his wife and shot himself in a failed suicide attempt at a Phoenix home on Friday, but waited until Tuesday to call authorities.
It happened near 15th Avenue and Peoria in Phoenix, according to officials.
“The injuries the man inflicted on himself didn’t take his life,” explained Sgt. Tommy Thompson of the Phoenix Police Department.
Thompson said a 56-year-old man shot and killed his 66-year-old wife on Friday and then turned the gun on himself.
“Four days... It’s hard to believe the body was in there that long without anyone noticing,” said neighbor Darlene Johnson.
Another neighbor who didn’t want to be identified said the couple was always helpful and nice.
The man reportedly shot himself in the chin, but suffered a non-life threatening injury. He was taken to the hospital for treatment and will then be taken to jail.
Thompson said the man decided to call police Tuesday morning to report the shooting and officers responded to the scene.
The man was transported to a Valley hospital for treatment.
Identities of those involved have not been released.
