PHOENIX - The loss of a long time Phoenix specialty car shop has neighbors in the area worried about what happens next.
"We consider all the businesses here close and like family," said Joe Henry, a Block Watch Captain for the neighborhood near 25th Avenue & McDowell Road. "They do their best to keep the area clean and free of crime."
Friday night, a fire ripped through Arizona Street Rods destroying the 32-year-old business and several unique collectible cars inside.
Henry remembers the shop as a child. He said he will do regular patrols to help out the owner during this tough time.
"I'll be back as much as I need to to keep things safe and secure," he said
Henry said the neighborhood has been hit tough by the economy and the loss of such an icon adds a layer of instability for the future.
"Without them, it makes us more prone to the wrong kind of things to pop up in our neighborhood," he said. "I pray Arizona Street Rods comes back here."
