PHOENIX - A motorcyclist is dead after a high-speed collision with a car in west Phoenix.
Phoenix police identify the victim as 62-year-old James Norbert Stoegbauer.
They say Stoegbauer was riding on 51st Avenue from Thunderbird Road about 1:30 p.m. Friday when he collided with a car that pulled out of a shopping center in front of his motorcycle.
Witnesses say the motorcycle was traveling at a high rate of speed and Stoegbauer wasn't wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
Police say the 26-year-old driver of the car escaped injury along with his wife, who was a passenger.
Officers are investigating the cause of the crash, but say there's no sign of impairment.
