PHOENIX - A Phoenix man was found guilty on October 28th of reportedly using private airplanes to transport shipments of marijuana.
According to the US Attorney's Office, evidence shown in Federal court showed 49-year-old Luis Javier Rodriguez had hired two private pilots to fly marijuana from Chandler to an airpark in Clark County, Indiana.
Rodriguez had reportedly brought marijuana to the planes wrapped in black plastic and placed in cardboard boxes and a duffle bag.
The pilots were apparently informed that they would be flying time sensitive business documents and certificates for Rodriguez’ constructions business.
Department of Homeland Security Agents intercepted the plane at Clark County Airport.
Inside, agents reportedly discovered 140 kilograms of marijuana inside eight boxes and one duffle bag.
Rodriguez faces a maximum penalty of 40 years in jail, a possible $2,000,000 fine, or both. He is scheduled to be sentenced on January 18, 2012.
