PHOENIX - A Gilbert man who pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the 2009 death of his infant daughter has been sentenced to 13 years in prison.

Maricopa County prosecutors say 21-year-old Ricky Martinez was sentenced Friday.

He was arrested after his 2-month-old daughter was taken off life support and died at a hospital on Nov. 12, 2009.

Martinez originally was indicted on a charge of first-degree felony murder in the case. He pleaded guilty to second-degree murder last October in a plea agreement.

Police say Martinez told them his baby daughter fell from a bed while he changed a diaper.

Authorities say an autopsy showed Lilliana Martinez suffered skull fractures from as many as four blows to the head and had nine healing rib fractures.
