PHOENIX - Valley Metro is celebrating the opening of its newest park-and-ride lot ride in Phoenix with free breakfast and transit passes Wednesday morning.

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act-funded 7th Avenue and Camelback Road park-and-ride offers light rail passengers additional and shaded parking, according to Hillary Foose with METRO light rail.

To celebrate the lot's opening, METRO will offer free breakfast -- courtesy Copper Star Coffee, America's Best Taco Shop and Fry's -- and 100 free all-day transit passes provided by Hunter Contracting Co.

Also on hand… the Phoenix Suns Gorilla. There will also be an opportunity to enter a drawing for Phoenix Suns/US Airways Center ticket packages.

Foose says the opening of the lot is well-timed, with growth in light rail ridership and gas prices.
