PHOENIX - Former Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich will stop at the Phoenix Zoo on Thursday for a behind-the-scenes tour.
Gingrich, a zoo enthusiast, is in the Valley for a signing Wednesday night of his new book, "A Nation Like No Other."
The Phoenix Zoo says the zoo's president Bert Castro knew Gingrich was fond of zoos and invited him for a private tour when he found out the former House Speaker would be in Phoenix.
The Zoo says in a statement Wednesday that Gingrich is scheduled to tour the Komodo dragon exhibit and black-footed ferret breeding center, "get up-close with the elephants" and maybe squeeze in a visit to the Galapagos tortoises.
