PHOENIX - A man was taken to a local hospital after a mattress caught fire inside a Phoenix apartment Friday morning.

Firefighters responded to the blaze in the area of Oak and 16th streets around 3 a.m.

Fire officials at the scene said the man was taken to the hospital for minor smoke inhalation.

The apartment reportedly had smoke and water damage, but no other units were affected.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
