PHOENIX - A 24-year-old man suffered serious injuries while base jumping off Camelback Mountain Sunday.
Phoenix fire Capt. Scott McDonald said the man was jumping off "Bobby's Rock" in Echo Canyon around 8:30 a.m. when the accident occurred.
McDonald said the jumper's parachute deployed but halfway down he hit some rocks and fell 60 to 80 feet.
Base jumping is the sport of jumping off fixed structures and using parachutes to break the fall.
McDonald said he sustained serious injuries.
