PHOENIX - Authorities say six people were injured when their vehicle left a central Phoenix freeway, jumped over a canal and landed next to a neighborhood fence.
Phoenix Fire Department spokesman Jonathan Jacobs says the car was traveling on the Loop 202 when it for some reason left the highway, jumped over a canal, coming to a stop near 26th and Culver streets.
Jacobs said a male driver in his 30s and five children in the vehicle were taken to Valley hospitals with serious injuries, but not as bad as they could have been considering the accident.
Everyone in the vehicle but one child was wearing their seatbelts, Jacobs said. The ages of the children range from 10 to 16 years.
A witness said the car made sharp turn off the freeway just before the accident.
