PHOENIX - A popular central Phoenix park is celebrating its 75th birthday Saturday with a daylong celebration.
Named by Forbes Magazine as one of the nation's 12 best city parks, Encanto Park is a 65-acre oasis in the city that features not only a golf course, but fishing lagoons, paddle boats to rent, a sports complex, playground, lighted picnic areas with grills, a pool, and a recreation building.
The park is also home to Enchanted Island Amusement Park , with a host of rides for children ages 2 to 10 years old.
The event kicked off Saturday morning, and activities throughout the day include live music, food, kids' activities -- including a petting zoo -- and a fireworks display at 7 p.m.
Free parking and shuttle service is available at Phoenix College on 15th Avenue just north of Thomas Road.
