Emily Bracamontes, family speak out about leaving Phoenix Children's Hospital and going to Mexico

PHOENIX - The couple who removed their daughter from Phoenix Children's Hospital late last month, sparking a massive search for the 11-year-old, are opening up to Univision about why they did it.

Phoenix police have been looking for Emily Bracamontes since surveillance video in late November showed the girl's mother walking her out of PCH a day before the child was set to be released. Emily was at the hospital being treated for leukemia.

Now, Emily, her family and her doctor are sitting down with Univision to talk about why they left the Valley to seek medical treatment in Mexico.

Emily's father, Luis Bracamontes, addressed his daughter's disappearance last week, saying the family had taken Emily out of the country for treatment by doctors in Mexico.

"She is well and she is fine," he said in an interview while declining to reveal where the girl was being treated.

The girl underwent about a month of chemotherapy in the Valley and had been treated for an infection that forced doctors to amputate her arm, police said.

Luis blames the Phoenix hospital for the loss of his daughter's arm and says the family was being pressured over mounting medical bills.
