PHOENIX - Authorities have identified the semi-truck driver who fled the scene after he struck the Jefferson overpass over Interstate 17 earlier this month.

According to the Department of Public Safety, the driver was identified as 32 year-old Shayne Skougard of Las Vegas.

After hearing reports of the driver fleeing the scene on Oct. 4, several witnesses contacted DPS and gave detailed descriptions of the truck and its driver.

Skougard was cited for violating oversized-load permit restrictions, DPS said.

He faces severe jail fines and jail time and is at risk of losing his commercial driver's license if he is found guilty.

According to authorities, ADOT is developing plans to repair the overpass since the crash damaged five of its girders.

They expect to file a claim with the company's insurance carrier to pay for the damages.
