PHOENIX - Lawyers will not orally make closing arguments at a trial aimed at settling allegations over whether Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio's office racially profiles Latinos in its immigration patrols.

Instead, the attorneys will present closing arguments to U.S. District Judge Murray Snow in written briefs that are due on Aug. 9 and 16.

Testimony at the trial is expected to end Thursday.

A group of Latinos who brought the civil case against the sheriff's office says Arpaio's deputies pulled over some vehicles only to make immigration status checks.

Arpaio has repeatedly denied charges that his department discriminates against Latinos and says his deputies only stop people when they think a crime has been committed.

It's unknown when Snow will issue his ruling.
