PHOENIX - A Chandler father arrested after police say he burned his son's hand for touching his Bible has pleaded guilty to child abuse.

Maricopa County prosecutors say 25-year-old Johnny Salazar entered the plea Thursday. His sentencing is set for Oct. 11.

At the time of his arrest, Salazar's mother Connie Salazar told a Phoenix television station that her son was taking a designer drug and was hallucinating.

Chandler police say Salazar told his parents he burned his 5-year-old son with a lighter, thinking the boy was possessed.

Police say they suspect Salazar was under the influence of an unknown substance when he was arrested.
