PHOENIX - A 19-year-old cancer survivor is thanking the Phoenix Children's Hospital by dedicating her renewed life to helping others.
At 15, Megan Oleno was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma, but with treatment from Phoenix Children's Hospital, she is now celebrating her four year anniversary of being in remission.
Now that she is not occupied fighting cancer, Oleno spends her time interning for a student organization at Paradise Valley Community College and giving back to the hospital that saved her life, according to Michelle Dew from PVCC.
As an intern for Diversity Incorporated, Oleno helps facilitate diversity and inclusion exercises and workshops to peers, Maricopa County Community College District employees and community members.
The program has inspired her to perform community service at Palomino Elementary and the Foundation for Blind Children.
Oleno is also busy working as a staff member for the PCH Foundation. Currently, she is organizing a Halloween-themed 5K event to benefit PCH as well as Diversity Incorporated.
