Cameron Leezell Taylor search: Up to $6,000 in rewards to find wanted Phoenix gang member

PHOENIX - Nearly four years later, a family is still searching for answers after their loved one was shot and killed during a gang-related drive-by shooting in March 2009.

Last week, the U.S. Marshals Service increased the reward to $5,000 for information leading directly to the arrest of 25-year-old Cameron Leezell Taylor.

On March 23, 2009, the documented member of the “Vista Blood” criminal street gang was part of a drive-by shooting near Elwood and 16th streets, just south of Interstate 10.

Authorities say Taylor shot and killed an innocent bystander during the shooting.

The victim was 54-year-old Gilbert Leon, according to Phoenix police.

Leon's mother, Clemencia Leon, and the rest of his family are hoping Taylor is found.

"He may go to prison, but at least his mother, his parents, and his family can go see him. I can't see my son," Clemencia Leon said.

Police said Taylor and two other suspects were driving northbound on 16th Street near Elwood Street around 12:30 p.m. when they saw a rival gang member in another vehicle.

Taylor allegedly shot at the rival gang member with a rifle, hitting the vehicle multiple times, police said.

At the time of the shooting, Leon was reportedly returning home from taking his nephew out to lunch.

He was driving northbound on 16th Street when he was fatally hit by a stray bullet.

In the last four years, Phoenix police and the U.S. Marshals Service have followed up on multiple leads between Arizona and California in hopes of finding Taylor.

None of the leads resulted in an arrest, so the U.S. Marshals Service announced it is now offering up to $5,000 for information leading directly to Taylor’s arrest.

Up to an extra $1,000 is offered through Silent Witness.

The most recent photos of Taylor the authorities have are from 2009.

The U.S. Marshal’s Service said he may have since gained weight and changed his hairstyle.

Taylor is considered armed and extremely dangerous, authorities said.

He is described as a black male, 5-feet-11-inches tall, and weighed about 150 pounds, at least at the time of the shooting, authorities said.

Taylor has black hair, brown eyes, and may have the words “Blood Money” tattooed across his hands and fingers, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.

He also has a gunshot wound on one or both hands and goes by the nickname “Woo.”
