Organizations around the Valley are taking action to get kids in need off to the right start when school starts.
School is already in session for some districts. Most Valley kids go back to school the week of August 5th.
The Assistance League of Phoenix is taking to the roads this year to reach kids that may otherwise not get help.
With help from a grant award from the Diamondbacks, the organization is filling a 40-foot bus with clothes and school supplies. They will take the bus to several schools before the start of school.
The bus made a stop this week at Loyola Academy which is a program through Brophy College Preparatory that provides scholarships to junior high aged kids in lower income neighborhoods.
"It is tough even when you just have two kids," said Juana Garcia. Garcia was able to get uniforms and supplies for her son thanks to the Assistance League's efforts.
The League will visit several schools over the next couple weeks. Their thrift store near 7th Street and Glendale is open year around to help kids.
The organization relies on donations and has had significant contributions from the BHSS Legacy Foundation that matches others donations.
The League is one of several efforts in the community to help kids in need with school supplies. Your school or school district offices should be able to direct you to a back to school drive.
