PHOENIX - Anne-Marie Tracy and her husband William were determined to help Frances Reuter, their 86-year-old neighbor who was evicted from her apartment.
“We saw her story on ABC15, and we called you guys to offer some help to her. She’s in a wheelchair and it’s so hard to move as it is, especially in a limited amount of time,” Anne-Marie said.
Over the past couple of months, Reuter was in and out of the hospital for multiple medical conditions. With all her family in Alaska, she had no one to help her keep up with rent payments during her stay in the hospital. When she came back home, she found an eviction letter in her mail box.
“I paid them as quick as I could, but they gave the check back,” Reuter said.
The manager of the apartment complex told ABC15 Reuter had been late on her rent once before, and since she didn’t come into the leasing office in person, her October rent check was not accepted.
Since Reuter’s story first aired, the Tracys and a number of other viewers offered to help her move.
“We’ve just been packing boxes and cleaning around the apartment. The only thing left to do is find a moving truck in her limited budget,” Anne-Marie said.
The Tracys have been calling around to different moving companies explaining Reuter’s situation, but are yet to find a company willing to help.
They are planning on moving Reuter out of the apartment Saturday morning.
