PHOENIX - JJ Virgin says we've been following the wrong set of rules. Instead, the author of “ The Virgin Diet ”, says the secret to losing weight is centered on seven, specific foods. She says there's a reason that the “work out, eat less” weight loss method doesn't work.
“That's actually going to burn up muscle and that slows down your metabolism, while raising your stress hormones, which can actually make you better at storing fat and worse at burning it off,” JJ explains.
What’s more, she says there are foods you’re eating everyday in an effort to be healthy, like egg white omelets, Greek-style yogurt and soy milk that create inflammation and makes you hold on to weight.
So, how do you lose weight?
JJ claims the real secret to weight gain is food intolerance and explains there are seven big culprits: soy, gluten, dairy, eggs, peanuts, corn and sugar/artificial sweeteners
JJ says those foods not only cause weight gain, “but also fatigue, joint pains, skin problems, moodiness, headaches, cravings, gas, bloating, all of those rotten things.”
But, how do you know which foods cause which problems?
“Pull the top culprits out for three weeks, let your immune system cool down and then bring them back and see which foods work for you and which ones don't,” she explains.
The good news: JJ says you don't have to stop eating and drinking these things altogether. Instead, just swap them out with the healthier choice.
“We trade your soy milk for coconut milk. We trade your peanut butter for almond butter, so you're not going, 'Oh, I’m missing this,'” she says.
JJ explains if you follow her rules and don’t cheat, you'll lose seven pounds in just seven days. Surprisingly, she says people tell her they actually like the swaps better.
