PHOENIX - Phoenix has become a more popular spring break destination this year, according to one travel website.

Orbitz.com published their list of most popular spring break destinations booked on their website.

Phoenix moved up from #5 to #4 in 2011 based on survey results from a recent consumer poll about spring break travel.

According to Orbitz, four of the top 10 most popular spring break destinations are in Florida.

According to the survey, 88 percent of respondents said they were trying to avoid known college spring break spots.

The majority of people polled said they plan to spend either less than $500 per person (26 percent) or between $1,000 and $2,000 per person (26 percent) on spring break travel this year.

Orbitz said in a statement that in spite of reports of drug-related violence, Mexico still claims three spots in the top five international destinations. Cancun was #1, San Lucas #4, and Puerto Vallarta #5.

New Orleans, Honolulu and San Juan, Puerto Rico are all newcomers to the Top 20 this year, while Chicago and Atlanta dropped out of the Top 10 U.S. list.
