PHOENIX - Police say a man who was found dead at Steele Indian School Park in central Phoenix Sunday took his own life.

Officers told ABC15 that around 6 p.m. police received a call from a man reporting the body of a male at the park near 3rd Street and Indian School Road.

The man told police he was walking his dog and found the victim in an isolated area of the park.

When police arrived, they found the man, described as in his mid-30s, in the northeast corner of the park between some park benches.

Police said there was clear and definite trauma to the victim's body.

Authorities closed the park around 7 p.m to investigate.

The incident happened about 50 yards from the dog park.
