PHOENIX - Phoenix police sent officers to Papago Park late Saturday night in Phoenix after a man told a 911 operator that a naked man was following him.
Alex Griego told ABC15 that he had just stopped cycling to rest on a park bench near Hunt’s Tomb when the naked stranger approached him.
“It was completely dark out,” Griego said, “I couldn’t make out his face or what he looked like. All I could make out was he was naked.”
Griego said he usually bikes late since it’s too hot during the day.
The naked man walked right past Griego on the bench around 10 p.m., stared at him and started walking towards him again, said Griego.
“He didn't say a word to me,” Griego told ABC15 from his home on Monday afternoon.
Griego said he rode away on his bicycle and called 911.
Phoenix police said they searched the area for 30 minutes and talked to several other people but did not get any other reports of a naked man.
Papago Park has a history of indecent exposure. In February 1998, ABC15 did an undercover investigation and found several men seeking anonymous sex with other men in the park restrooms. Two days after the report aired, Phoenix police did their own undercover investigation.
