PHOENIX - Police have four suspects in custody after a car was stolen at gunpoint in West Phoenix early Friday.

Phoenix police Sgt. Steve Martos said the victims were driving home around 3 a.m. and noticed a vehicle following them.

The victims parked their car across from their home near 83rd Avenue and McDowell Road and waited to get a look at the suspects as they drove past.

The suspects turned around and returned to the victims' vehicle where one of the suspects got out of the car and pointed a shotgun at the driver.

The victims were ordered out of the car and the suspect got into the vehicle, continuing to point the shotgun at the driver.

When the suspect began to back up, the victim driver pulled out a handgun and fired a number of rounds at the suspect.

Martos said no one was injured in the incident.

At approximately 5:20 a.m., a Phoenix patrol officer saw the stolen vehicle in the area of 91st Avenue and Buckeye Road and followed it to the Interstate 10 freeway where a Phoenix Police helicopter continued to follow the car.

The suspects were followed to the area of 24th Street and Buckeye Road where they bailed from the vehicle and fled into the neighborhood.

A perimeter was set up and all four suspects were taken into custody. Police found a shotgun in the stolen vehicle, Martos said.

Police have not released the suspects' names, but described them as an 18-year-old male, two 17-year-old males and a 15-year-old female.

The victims were described as a 25-year-old male and female.

Martos said the suspects were being interviewed by detectives regarding the incident.
