PHOENIX - A reward is being offered by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service after a contract route driver's vehicle was shot at Friday morning on a Phoenix freeway.
According to a USPIS news release, the Postal Highway Contract Route driver's trailer was hit by gunfire while traveling west on the Loop 202 Red Mountain freeway near 24th Street around 1:40 a.m.
Spokesman Greg Torbenson said the driver of the tractor/trailer was not physically injured.
The USPIS is offering a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible.
Assault on a postal employee using a deadly or dangerous weapon carries a penalty of not more than 20 years in prison, according to officials.
Anyone with information about the case is urged to call 877-876-2455, option 5.
