AHWATUKEE, AZ - Officials say a 13-year-old boy was hospitalized after allegedly showing up drunk to an Ahwatukee middle school.
A Phoenix Fire Department spokesman said they received a call Tuesday from a Kyrene Akimel A-al Middle School nurse who suspected the teen might be intoxicated.
When fire crews arrived, the student was taken to a local hospital to be evaluated.
In a letter sent home to parents, principal Mike Deignan said the school decided to call for medical assistance after the school nurse "noticed a student who appeared to be in need of attention".
According to Kyrene School District spokeswoman Nancy Dudenhoefer, the boy is currently home with his parents.
There is no word at this time what, if any, punishment the boy is facing.
