PRESCOTT, AZ - Freshman congressman Paul Gosar fended off a tough challenge for the Republican nomination in Arizona's 4th Congressional District.

Gosar beat Arizona Sen. Ron Gould Tuesday in the heavily Republican district that runs from western Arizona through Prescott and south of Phoenix.

Gould touted himself as the leading conservative with more legislative experience. Gosar said he's one of the most accomplished members of Congress who doesn't rule out compromise. Radio station owner Rick Murphy finished a distant third in the race.

Two little-known Democrats -- junior high school social studies teacher Mikel Weisser and Johnnie Robinson -- are seeking the Democratic nomination.
