PRESCOTT, AZ - Authorities say human remains found in northern Arizona this week are believed to those of a man missing since July 2011.
The Yavapai County Sheriff's Office received a call Wednesday from a Prescott Valley man who said he had come across possible human remains while out horseback riding.
Deputies confirmed the remains to be human.
Sheriff's officials said Friday that investigators believe the remains are those of 48-year-old Terry Ferrell. He was last seen at his Coyote Springs home on July 3, 2011 and reported missing two days later.
Family and friends told authorities that Ferrell was despondent and likely in possession of a handgun.
A two-week search for Ferrell turned up nothing.
A positive identification and a cause of death are pending from the county medical examiner.
