PRESCOTT, AZ - A Payson man is in custody in connection with an attempted bank robbery in northern Arizona.

The FBI says 39-year-old Clinton Carl Gimlen was arrested Saturday after he allegedly tried to rob the National Bank of Arizona in Prescott.

Prescott police say they learned earlier last week that Gimlen allegedly made statements about robbing a Prescott-area bank because he needed money due to pending legal issues.

Police say he planned to drive to Prescott, enter the bank and present an employee with a note demanding cash.

Authorities closed the bank and say Gimlen was arrested outside with a robbery note and other undisclosed evidence.

They say Gimlen is being held at the Yavapai County Jail in Camp Verde on suspicion to commit robbery, attempted robbery and tampering with evidence.
