PRESCOTT VALLEY, AZ - Authorities say a woman was killed in a multi-vehicle crash in northern Arizona in which the driver who was reportedly at fault admitted to using drugs.

Prescott Valley police report that the three-vehicle accident occurred around 3 p.m. on Tuesday near State Route 89A and Robert Road.

Police said that according to a preliminary investigation, a white 2004 Dodge Neon driven by a 46-year-old woman was stopped at the traffic light and when the light turned green that driver and the driver of a 2013 Ford Focus in front of her began to accelerate.

Witnesses reported that at that point a 2005 Jeep Liberty struck the Neon at highway speeds, with no braking. It was a rear-end collision, according to police.

The impact caused the Dodge Neon to spin several times and strike the Ford Focus. The Jeep Liberty, driven by 49-year-old Kris Raymond McClain of Prescott, continued through the intersection before stopping.

Hayley Stevens of Dewey, a 19-year-old passenger in the Dodge Neon, suffered life-threatening injuries. She was treated at the scene and transported to Yavapai Regional Medical Center East Campus where she later died.

A 1 1/2-year-old passenger in the Dodge Neon was air-lifted to Phoenix Children's Hospital with serious injuries.

The 46-year-old driver was taken to YRMC East Campus with serious injuries.

The driver of the Ford Focus was not injured, according to police.

McClain, the driver of the Jeep Liberty, was eventually flown to a Phoenix area hospital with serious injuries.

Police say McClain was investigated for possible impairment as he reportedly admitted to using both marijuana and methadone for medical reasons in the previous 24 hours.

McClain faces charges for 2nd degree murder, three counts of aggravated assault, three counts of endangerment and two DUI-related charges.

The family of Hayley Stevens has set up an account to help with funeral expenses. You can help by making a donation at any Arizona State Credit Union under the name "Benefit account for Hayley Stevens".
