PRESCOTT VALLEY, AZ - Police say a driver who allegedly caused an accident in which a 19-year-old woman was killed in Prescott Valley last week was a medical marijuana card holder and had 60 grams of marijuana in his vehicle.

Kris Raymond McClain of Prescott was booked into the Yavapai County Jail on charges of probation violation, one count of second-degree murder, three counts of aggravated assault, one count of endangerment, two counts of aggravated DUI and one count of criminal damage.

Prescott Valley police say McClain rear-ended a Dodge Neon that had just accelerated for a green light on State Route 89A at Robert Road around 3 p.m. last Tuesday.

Witnesses reportedly told investigators the Jeep Liberty that McClain was driving hit the Neon at highway speeds with no braking.

The Neon spun several times and hit another vehicle which was also accelerating from the intersection.

The passenger in the Neon, 19-year-old Hayley Stevens of Dewey suffered fatal injuries.

The driver and a 1 1/2-year-old child were taken to the hospital and have since been released.

McClain, 49, was taken to a Phoenix hospital to be treated for his injuries. He was booked into jail once he was released from the hospital.

When investigators searched McClain’s vehicle, they found the marijuana and medical marijuana card.

He was booked into jail on Saturday on warrants obtained for his arrest.
