PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. - A man has been detained for questioning by Prescott Valley police following a deadly shooting Wednesday. The police department says a caller reported that a person had been accidentally shot in the head.

Police arrived at a building site that was under construction and found a man with a gunshot wound to the head in a suite that appeared to be under renovation or construction.

Officers detained an adult male walking away from the scene and he is being interviewed by investigators.

Paramedics arrived, but the shooting victim was declared dead at the scene.

He has been identified as 49-year-old Edward Mitchell of Prescott Valley.

Police say they have recovered a small caliber handgun at the scene that is believed to have been involved in the death.

Investigators are trying to determine what led to the shooting.
