PAYSON, AZ - A wildfire south of Payson forced the closure of southbound State Route 87 on Saturday.
Officials with the Tonto National Forest say the "Long Fire" burned about 50 acres in the median and west of the Beeline Highway near mile marker 210.
The Department of Public Safety closed the highway between State Route 188 and the Bush Highway. Both lanes were reopened by 8:30 p.m. Saturday evening.
Authorities say smoke from the fire was visible from Phoenix.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
