PAYSON, AZ - The stepfather of wanted Arizona prison escapee John McCluskey had some strong words for the man convicted of second degree murder charges.
"If you're out there watching, I just got back from Payson jail," Jack Washburn said looking at the ABC15 camera. "She's locked up in her little uniform, handcuffed and her bail is set at $250,000."
Washburn's wife, Claudia, is behind bars accused of providing financial and other types of support to aid in the flight of her son, Tracy Province and his accomplice, Casslyn Welch.
The 68-year-old who is now in the Payson jail owns Jake's Corner Store just off highway 188 outside of Payson.
It's where she also lives with Jack and it's where authorities arrested her early Saturday morning.
When asked if his wife helped her son, Jack answered, "I have no idea I didn't hear nothing."
But now the small town is hearing McCluskey is linked by forensic evidence to the murder of a New Mexico couple found Wednesday.
"He'll never realized how bad he's hurt me and his mother," said Jack.
Those who know the the popular store owner say she's a good woman who might not have realized the severity of helping her son.
"Kind, generous, pleasant but I don't know when it comes to children," said neighbor and friend Susan McAlister.
"I would have turned him in," said one neighbor who didn't want to be identified.
One thing is certain. The small community wants McCluskey and the other two to turn themselves in before anyone else gets hurt.
"I pray that they turn themselves in," said neighbor Jill Williams. "If not, somebody out there knows something and please help us to bring justice to everyone."
