SKULL VALLEY, AZ - A mother of two is facing serious charges stemming from a car accident nearly three months ago.

The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office says 29-year-old Jessica Wayas, of Congress, was driving her 1997 Ford Mustang on March 13 when she hit a 1980 Chevy pick up truck, driven by a 71-year-old resident from Yarnell, head on.

Deputies say Wayas’ 5-year-old daughter and 6-year-old son were in the car when the accident happened. Neither child was wearing seatbelts, according to authorities.

Deputies say everyone involved in the accident was injured.

Wayas was flown to a Phoenix hospital for upper body and leg injuries. Her son was treated at Yavapai Regional Medical Center for cuts and her daughter was also airlifted to a Phoenix hospital for head injuries.

The 71-year-old driver of the pickup truck was flown to a Phoenix hospital for severe chest pains. He had apparently recently had open heart surgery and deputies say he has been in medical treatment and rehabilitation ever since the accident.

YCSO says Wayas' blood test results were returned from the Department of Public Safety lab with the results showing a substantial amount of methamphetamine/amphetamines in her blood.

YCSO traffic specialists also completed their investigation into who was at fault in the accident and say the results clearly reveal that Wayas' car went left of the center of the roadway and collided with the Chevy truck.

Deputies recently arrested Wayas on several charges, including aggravated DUI, child abuse, aggravated assault and felony criminal damage.

Deputies say Wayas’ 5-year-old daughter was with her at the time of the arrest and was taken into Child Protective Services custody.

Wayas remains in jail on a $15,000 bond.
