PAGE, AZ - Gov. Jan Brewer has signed an emergency declaration so the state can seek federal money to pay for repairing a northern Arizona highway that remains partially closed since pavement buckled on Feb. 20.

The Department of Transportation says it doesn't know how long repairs to the stretch of US 89 on a hillside south of Page will take or cost.

However, Brewer's emergency declaration says the severity of the damage requires that the state obstains federal assistance.

Hundreds of feet of pavement were ripped apart by what Brewer's declaration refers as a failure of the slope.

Traffic is being detoured around the stretch of US 89 that is closed between Page and the highway's junction with US 89A.
