Coconino County sheriff’s deputies arrested a hitch hiker Thursday suspected of starting small fire.
Deputies arrested James Duncan, 25, around 11:30 a.m. on suspicion of reckless burning, a class one misdemeanor. He’s been accused of starting a 1-acre fire near Interstate 40 with a discarded cigarette, police said.
The Coconino County Sheriff’s Office was called to the area when a man recognized Duncan as being in the area when the original fire started, officials said.
Duncan admitted to smoking a cigarette but denied causing the fire, according to a report.
