PHOENIX - An Arizona soldier has been killed while serving in Afghanistan.

The U.S. Department of Defense announced Thursday that Sgt. 1st Class Barett W. McNabb, of Chino Valley, died Tuesday in Khakrez.

Military officials say the 33-year-old McNabb died from wounds suffered when he was attacked by an enemy improvised explosive device.

McNabb was assigned to the 562nd Engineer Company, 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash.

Officials say McNabb enlisted in the Army in November 1999. He was deployed to Afghanistan in April after three deployments to Kuwair from 2001 to 2007.
