PRESCOTT, AZ - Authorities searched a landfill in northern Arizona this week, looking for clues into last weekend's disappearance of a 2-year-old boy who was camping with family friends.

Sylar Newton was sleeping in a tent with a friend of his mother, her mother and daughter when he disappeared between midnight and 1:45 a.m. last Sunday.

According to the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office, several waste loads at the Gray Wolf Landfill in Dewey that were identified as coming from the Beaver Creek Campground and the surrounding area were searched. YCSO personnel, FBI agents and forensic specialists combed through over 200 tons of waste material at the site looking for any evidence linked to Sylar's disappearance.

Authorities say although no critical evidence was immediately discovered, the effort will continue as additional loads are isolated.

In addition, officials say the FBI has provided specialized equipment along with YCSO resources including aircraft and sonar gear to examine bodies of water.

The YCSO says the campground will remain secure so searchers and investigators can protect the scene integrity as they continue to look for Sylar and any critical evidence.

Detectives have started to distribute missing person flyers in nearby campground and community areas hoping to find anyone who may be unaware of the incident have information about the missing boy.

Officials say Sylar's mother lives out of state and the woman he was with, Christina Priem, says she is in the process of adopting the boy.
