COLORADO CITY, AZ - Daily patrols and extra law enforcement have begun in a small northern Arizona community with a polygamist enclave.

Colorado City recently kicked off the initiative thanks to the help of a grant from the office of Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne.

According to a Mohave County Sheriff’s Office news release, the $500,000 grant will fund deputy sheriff overtime as well as expenses needed to provide “fair and unbiased law enforcement services to the community.”

The United States Department of Justice recently filed a complaint against the Colorado City Marshal’s Office regarding civil rights violations.

Mohave County Sheriff Tom Sheahan said that the grant is a “monumental occasion” that will help them focus on helping the community and eliminate corruption within the city government.
