Mohave County Sheriff's Office: Homeowner Winfred Millard Murphy shoots house cleaner

DOLAN SPRINGS, AZ - Mohave County Sheriff's deputies arrested a 77-year-old man after he reportedly assaulted and shot a 23-year-old woman who had come to his house for cleaning services.

According to Mohave County Sheriff's Office, Winfred Millard Murphy was arrested around 3 p.m. Wednesday when deputies responded to a call that a woman had been shot at Murphy's residence in the 17200 block of N. Mesquite Road.

The victim was enroute to the fire department where deputies later met her and discovered that she was shot in her left arm. She was later airlifted to a medical center in Las Vegas.

The woman told authorities that Murphy had become angry while she was asking for payment for her cleaning services.

He reportedly took her by the hair and during a struggle between the two, Murphy grabbed a pistol and shot her.

Deputies went to Murphy's home, but Murphy did not respond to telephone or public announcements.

Murphy eventually exited his home, and officials took him into custody.

Deputies confiscated weapons from Murphy's home and booked him into the Mohave County Jail.
