PAYSON, AZ - Crews are battling a fire that ignited in northern Arizona Sunday.
David Albo with the Tonto National Forest said the “Big Canyon Fire” was reported around 10:30 a.m.
The fire is reportedly burning 2 miles west of the Tonto Fish Hatchery in the Big Canyon area near the Highline Trail.
It is approximately 14 miles east of Payson in a rough and remote section of the Tonto National Forest, according to Albo.
As of Sunday evening, the fire is estimated to have grown to more than 100 acres.
Ground and air crews are fighting the fire. The cause is under investigation.
