DEWEY, AZ - Golf carts are going missing in Yavapai County.

The sheriff's office says deputies are investigating several cases in which golf carts have been stolen from the Prescott Country Club in Dewey and from surrounding subdivisions.

The carts are being taken late at night or in the early morning hours. Deputies believe the culprits are starting them with duplicate keys.

The carts are usually found with structural damage from being driven off-road and the golf course greens are being damaged by being driven on while frosted over.

Authorities say that although these acts appear to be innocent pranks, they could result in felony charges and the loss of driving privileges.

The sheriff's office is asking residents to report any suspicious activity as they continue their investigation.
