PHOENIX - A lot happens across Arizona each day.

Big stories or small, all of them affect our communities is some way.

Below you'll find five of the stories you can expect to hear more about as today unfolds:

Update on Inmate Escape 

The governor will address the latest in the investigation into the prison escapee, John McCluskey and the woman police call his accomplice, Casslyn Welch.  Gov. Brewer will speak at 3pm at the State Capitol.

Hoover Dam Tour

At 11am, we'll get a look at the progress being made at the Hoover Dam.   The focus will be on the Bridge and the work remaining to complete the Hoover Dam Bypass by November 2010.


Young boys honored for saving their dad from drowning 

A firefighter's sons and their friends will be honored for saving his life after he nearly drowned.  The boys jumped into action when the dad went unconscious as a result of a swimming accident.  The boys acted quickly by calling 911 and in a collaborative effort, pulled the Mesa firefighter from the pool. The recognition for the boys will be at 8 a.m. Today, at Las Sendas Elementary School 3120 N. Red Mountain, Mesa.


Arizona's Unemployment Numbers Released 

The monthly workforce briefing reflecting Arizonas unemployment numbers for July 2010 will be held at the Arizona Department of Commerce Offices at the State Capitol.

Glendale Fire Department helping seniors 

Glendale Firefighters will kick -off its newest program called "Living Healthier Safer Lives" at the Glencroft Retirement Community today. Glendale Firefighters will be on hand to perform free blood pressure and glucose checks on residents in hopes of recognizing any key risk factors that individuals may have prior to an emergency. Glendale Firefighters will also encourage folks to do their diligence in monitoring ones health throughout the year. Glendale Firefighters will put on at least 6 events each year at various location in Glendale. The programs will not only target senior living facilities but also facilities which children are involved. The programs will include topics such as health and exercise. "When 911 is called, the emergency has already happened. Our goal is to prevent emergencies from happening in the first place. We can do that by encouraging folks to live healthier safer lives," said Glendale Fire Chief Mark Burdick.
