LAKE HAVASU CITY, AZ - California authorities say a man attempting to swim across the Colorado River near Parker has drowned.

San Bernadino County Sheriff's Department spokesman Sgt. Tim Smith said the 51-year-old man drowned Thursday afternoon just north of the State Route 62 bridge in Parker.

Smith said the man, who was swimming with friends, struggled in the river current and was swept away. The drowning victim was recovered from the river and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man's name has not been released pending notification of family.
