KINGMAN, AZ - The Mohave County sheriff's office says a former gun magazine editor has been arrested in the death of one of his friends.

Authorities say a neighbor called 911 Wednesday afternoon and told dispatchers her neighbor had shot a man.

Sheriff's deputies found 39-year-old James Patrick O'Neill dead of a rifle shot to the chest.

They arrested 53-year-old Richard Erick Venola of Golden Valley on suspicion of second-degree murder.

Venola and O'Neill had been drinking, but detectives say they don't know yet what led to the shooting. Venola declined to speak with detectives until he had a lawyer present.

Guns & Ammo magazine lists Venola as its 12th editor, but an Atlanta-based spokeswoman for the publication said Thursday that Venola hasn't been an editor for about two years now.
