Highway 87 has been reopened after a closure due to the Canyon Fire in the Coconino National Forest.

Highway lanes opened late Monday morning, but the Arizona Department of Transportation suggested drivers watch for smoke and fire crews throughout the day between Clints Well and Winslow.

The Canyon Fire has burned around 6,000 acres and is reportedly 25 percent contained.

Crews spent the morning extinguishing hot spots near Highway 87.

Firefighters are optimistic that the fire will be further contained throughout the week.

The fire has been burning since Friday and was started by lightning.

There are still no evacuations and no structures are being threatened at this time.
