SCOTTSDALE, AZ - A body-camera system developed by Scottsdale based Taser International captured a tense situation inside a police station lobby.
The video, obtained by WCCO, shows a man armed with a knife walk into a police station lobby.
An officer, wearing Taser's AXON camera system can be heard ordering the man to drop the knife, calling for backup and drawing his firearm.
The entire incident is captured on video with a camera the officer is wearing on a headset similar to a pair of sunglasses.
About two years ago ABC15 got an inside look at the system when it was unveiled by Taser .
According to company spokesperson Steve Tuttle, several Valley agencies including Phoenix and Mesa, have conducted testing to determine if they want to purchase the high-tech devices.
The system aims to eliminate the "he said, she said" situations officers face ranging from DUI's to life threatening situations such as the incident in Minnesota shown by WCCO.
In the video, the man who walked into the Minnesota police lobby was taken into custody after other officers used a Taser to subdue him.
Tuttle said there are dozens of agencies across the nation that have signed on to use AXON.
The system can record up to 8-hours of audio and video which is preserved for court records with the inability to be deleted or altered.
The system costs about $1,700 per officer.
Taser International is working on new versions of the AXON system.
Some agencies across Arizona are using the system such as Lake Havasu City.
