Desert Mountain High School is testing nearly 200 students and teachers for tuberculosis Monday morning after one student tested positive for the infection last week.
Tuberculosis is a disease that infects the lungs and is spread when someone coughs germs into the air.
Health officials said in most cases someone is sick for months before they’re diagnosed. They said if someone tests positive there’s only a ten percent chance of them developing TB symptoms.
It will take several weeks for Monday’s test results to come back. If anyone tests positive for TB at Desert Mountain, they can get free treatment from the health department.
